A One Month Sports Blog Experiment on NESW Sports
June 16th, 2008 | by ethanator1088 |I am starting a new blog experiment. I am changing the way I blog for one month. I am going to combine all that I have learned about blogging since last September, my college education, and love for sports. I will apply it to NESW Sports. That and a little bit of elbow grease should make this work. If the experiment does not work, I will go back to my old way of blogging.
1st let me give you an overview of what I do now. I post great videos that I like and think other people would like to see. I write a little. I link to a few blogs I like. I am involved with a lot of different social media sites. I am having a blast, but I want more. I want people to come here for me. One thing I missed out on during my short journey of blogging is the personal side of it all. People need to like me or my writing style. They need a reason to connect with my blog. They need a reason to comment and return. I think that is the biggest thing missing from my blog. ME. Where am I?
By the way, just to make myself clear, I am not turning this into a personal blog. I am just going to put my opinion into it more. I am going to write a lot more. I am going to put my personality on the blog.
OK, here are the rules.
1. Only one video a day. Anyone can send me videos. Only the best will make it. I think that videos are great, but I need to write more.
2. I will only put up a video if I have written a good post that day.
3. I will use Ballhype as my only social media site. For this next month I will only submit posts to Ballhype. If I use other social media sites, it will be to vote for other peoples stuff.
4. I will not submit the videos I post to Ballhype, unless it is a video of myself. That is just like writing a post.
5. I will try to do a video of myself once a week and maybe more. Only if I get a great idea. I call them NESW Sports Original Productions.
6. I will only check my stats 2 times a day. Once when I get home from my real job, and once when I go to bed. That is a big change folks!
7. I will try to post a “link” post every day I have a chance. That will most likely continue to be 2-3 times a week. Send me anything, and I will link to it if I like it.
8. I do not have an about page. I will change that in the next couple days. People have to know who I am.
9. I might do a couple personal posts, but they will be short.
10. I will only write something that gets me. I am not going to search for stuff to get.
11. I do not currently have a weekly recurring post. I will change that starting next Sunday. I will do a post recapping all of the things that annoyed me from the show “The Sports Reporters” from ESPN on Sunday mornings. I will have the post up by Sunday night. I started watching it when Dick Schaap hosted it. I loved it. Now it has really started to annoy me. Some of it is good, but I have grown cynical in my old age of 28.
What do I hope to accomplish?
1. A readership that knows me, and tunes in for me.
2. Respect from my blogging peers would be nice.
3. A blog I can be prouder of. I am already proud of NESW Sports. I have a few readers and some traffic. I did it all my way. Now I am just going to tweak my way.
I will post statistical data on July 16th. I will go over the whole experiment and show if it worked. I will show how it worked or did not work. I will get a few bloggers I know to write a candid honest assessments of the experiments outcome. This should be fun! Stay tuned and please leave comments or send me emails about the site, contest, or posts etc… NESWsports at Gmail.com

This appears to be a manifesto of sorts, which I believe every blogger should have. I’m not one to follow the guidelines of so many who write posts about “how to be a good blogger.”
It’s about how YOU want to approach blogging. Especially those of us writing about sports. It’s completely unique in the blogosphere. It’s not like writing about photography or computers.
I answered your e-mail and I’m glad we got that cleared up. I wouldn’t ban, Gator fan or otherwise - lol.
I linked to the SEC blog and I’ll post a link to this as well.
Later.

Thanks a ton Moondog! I am going to be more of a traditional blog, but still put my own spin on it. I hate to conform, but I want to take what I have learned and use it.
I will put you on the blogroll as well!
