Top 10 Nicest Sports Bloggers on Ballhype
September 11th, 2008 | by Ethan Jaynes |
Top 10 Nicest Sports Bloggers on Ballhype. Ballhype is the THE place for Sports Bloggers to hang out. It’s design is simple genius. The sports blogging world will never be the same. The Ballhype algorithm baffles us all, but we have no idea how to live without it.
To be included in this list you have to be pretty special. Being nice is a choice. You could be an elitist. You could just not care. You could not have a single “nice” fiber in your body. It is easy to see when people are being fake.
One might ask themselves what the point of this list might be. Well, I wish I could have seen this list 1 year ago. I wish I could have known right off the bat who to ask questions to. I wish I would have known who to follow. If you have a blog, you put your heart on your sleeve everyday. These people know that, and embrace it.
Here is the criteria that I chose for my rankings.
- You have to be active in the Ballhype community.
- You have to submit posts.
- You have to comment.
- Your comments are helpful, well thought out, and just rock.
- There is also the human factor. I might just make the call, because I said so. I spend A LOT of time on Ballhype. I have formed some opinions using many factors.
I am leaving many off the list. This list could easily be a top 30. Several people just missed the cut. I am recusing my own profile from the list, because it would not be very nice of me to add myself.
I advise any new, or old, Ballhype user to check these profiles out and follow them. This list is starting with the nicest.
- And One - Carolyn Hastings from And One Cavaliers Basketball Blog. She submits like crazy, and she is sweeter than a bag of Fun Dip with a Coke chaser. Imagine the nicest person you know, then go find out more about Carolyn, and rethink your selection process.
- Odenized - I know he has been working like a mule as the online editor of Slam Online, but that does not change the fact the Ryne Nelson is very nice. I am sure he will be more active during the season. His personal blog is Odenized.
- Mookie - NBA blogger @ A Stern Warning
- Docksquad33 - The First non NBA blogger to make the list. He has a Chicago based sports blog called Docksquad sports.
- The Zoner - Another Chicago based all sports blogger. He blogs at ZonerSports
- AEM - he has 2 college blogs The Fifth Corner and The Orange Squeeze
- MVN Soccer - You may not like soccer, but he also submits other material. He blogs @ The World’s Beautiful Game and other place as well.
- DaddyCane - NBA blogger @ The Hoop Doctors
- Erin Gurney
- Jason Gurney- I know it is a complete cop out to add the site owners, but it is great that actual sports fans own the site.
I do not know why NBA bloggers are so nice, but I have a theory. The Two biggest NBA bloggers J.E. Skeets, from Ball Don’t Lie, and Henry Abbott, from True Hoop, are both very nice. They drop links like crazy and are VERY good at blogging. They are creative and talented. I think that has rubbed off on their minions.
If you have EVER visited my blog you have noticed that I am a video fanatic. I love them. I love to find them and I actually have 20 great youtube video posts sitting in a word document right now. This next video I have been saving for a special post. It is now time to unveil it.
This is from Jason Gurney’s personal Youtube account. I am not trying to embarrass him. He could squash me like an ant. He actually posted this beauty to Ballhype May of 2007. In the video, he had made a promise. His warriors made the playoffs, and he owned up to it his promise. The point of the video, is to prove that our fearless leader is actually a huge sports nut. ( Notice I did not type “Fearless Leader” in a mocking font. )
If you want to, you can skip to 1:40 in the vid.

Had you done “The Top 10 Biggest A**holes on Ball Hype” I would be #1 hands down.

LOL Moon!
Thanks for including me in the list. I love Ballhype too. We all know you are at the top of the list!
NBA is one thing, but how bout us Chicagoans repping this list? There’s Dock, me and I think Ryne is somewhere in Illinois too, although I could be wrong about that.
Go Bears!

I do not know why Chicago did so well. I know some other Chicago sports bloggers that could have easily made this list as well.

EJ, I am honored to be at the top of your list. I think all ten should be #1.

Should have watched the video before commenting. I love this video and how fun was it to see Jason? Can someone please put me in a coma until the season starts? I can’t wait any longer . . .

The point about Henry/Skeets helping to set the tone for NBA bloggers is a good one. I’d extend it to guys like Jamie Mottram and (formerly) Will Leitch for sports blogging in general.

You are welcome Carolyn.
JG, I am so glad you did not have any choice 4 letter words about me using that video of yours.
I do not know much about Leitch, except he is the Dadda of sports blogging.
I know for a fact that Jamie Mottram is the man.

Thanks a ton for including me on that list, it’s definitely a honor to be up there with some of those people.
I started blogging about a year ago with no real knowledge of anything, and most of those people on that list were extremely helpful to me, and really helped me out. Thanks again for everything guys, and once again, great list!
Lastly, CHI TOWN STAND UP!!!

You are all welcome. I did not do this for the thank yous though.
I just wanted to spread the word/and love. As Vik C from DocksquadSports just said, I am not the only one that these people helped out.

I think the hardest thing to do with this list is to limit it to only 10. Since I have been a part of BallHype, I have not come across anyone who acted anything but nice and civil. I am glad I came across this community.
