MSM fights Sports Bloggers! Chris Mottram Fights Back!
February 14th, 2009 | by Ethan Jaynes |MSM fights Sports Bloggers! Chris Mottram Fights Back! Let me give you are very short back story for the video you are about to see. The video pretty much explains itself. Mitch Albom was on ESPN radio, earlier this week, and he had some bad things to say about sports bloggers, and flaunted his degree and everything that means to him.
Scott Van Pelt, of ESPN and avid sports blog reader, decided to take the time to invite his favorite blogger, Chris Mottram of the Sporting News and Mr Irrelevant, to his show to explain the blogging side. Chris did an awesome job explaining that Mitch was wrong and very uneducated about the subject. As far as the ESPN Radio listeners go, this will most likely be the only blogger they will ever hear, so I am glad that he handled this with tact and class.
Please understand people, good sports blogs are much more relevant than your local beat writer. They have a much larger reach than your local TV sports anchor. They do not copy what main stream media gives them. They explain it to their readers in their own way, which is what the readers want. This is why newspapers are shutting down.
MSM is here to stay, but it is shrinking. Blogs are here to stay, and they are growing. We all need to be educated about both. Be sure to read more on this on Mister Irrelevant ( where they tell a tale of Mitch and how he can write a story before it happens ), Awful Announcing, Deadspin, and Mouthpiece Sports.

Wow. Mitch Albom is clueless. What hubris in talking about standards, especially considering his Michigan State story.
