Behind the scenes, I am sure he wanted to do this so he could rehearse the questions and answers. He has a bad habit of speaking his mind, and not thinking about what he is saying. This gave him the opportunity to to sit down and think about how to answer these questions, and how he wants to be perceived by the media and fans.
