1. Hulk Hogan Slams 525 Pounds Of Living Flesh
The recent sale of the Pontiac Silverdome for less than $600,000 seems like a good enough excuse to revisit the greatest moment in the history of wrestling and the history of the state of Michigan. See “525 pounds of living flesh” get slammed. Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse “The Body” Ventura are your announcers, Bob Uecker is your ring announcer.
2. CBS Intro to Super Bowl XVI at the Silverdome
(Okay not much of that had to do with the Silverdome, other than the graphic of the roof of the Silverdome exploding off. But of the 5 video moments of the first fifteen Super Bowls, I find it amusing that Garo Yepremian’s folly in an otherwise perfect ‘72 Dolphins season gets in there along with Bart Starr, Namath, Bradshaw and Jim Plunkett tearing up the Eagles.)
3. Top 10 Plays of the 1979 NBA All-Star Game at the Silverdome
4. Brazil-Sweden 1994 World Cup Match at the Silverdome
The new Canadian owners of the Silverdome might try to bring an MLS team there. The Silverdome’s soccer history includes Brazil’s worst result of the 1994 World Cup….
5. Your USFL Michigan Panthers
This is from a regular season game in May of 1983, with future Saints QB Bobby Hebert hooking up with future Vikings WR Anthony Carter.
Wikipedia says the crowd for that game, an OT loss that ended a six-game winning streak, was around 20,000. For a semifinal playoff game at the Silverdome though, attendance was over 60,000. The Michigan Panthers went on to win the first USFL Championship, beating the Philadelphia Stars at Mile High Stadium.
6. Old School Monster Truck commercial - Silverdome
Which should whet your appetite for….
7. The best Monster Trucks that raced, crash, and destroyed at the Silverdome
(Well, some of them, set to amazing music.)
8. Barry Sanders Wasn’t Bad Either
These aren’t all Silverdome runs, but a lot of them are. Just as a lot of them are against the beautiful old orange Buccaneers.
