Report: Keith Smart Won’t Be Back As Warriors Head Coach
According to Matt Steinmetz from Comcast Bay Area, Keith Smart won’t be returning as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors.
Unless Smart took the Warriors into the playoffs, he seemed like a lame duck coach to me. The Warriors had new ownership and those owners probably wanted their own guys up top in the first place. Smart was actually ushered in as coach when Don Nelson called it quits out of nowhere last summer.
The Warriors finished 36-46 under Keith Smart. Smart preached defense and for the first few games, the Warriors did just that. And then they reverted back to Don Nelson’s style of high-powered offense and, well, bad defense.
There are quite a few coaches available for the Warriors. They could bring back Rick Adelman. They could go after a defensive wiz in Mike Brown. Or they could go for a fresh face.
One thing is for sure: the Warrior owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber are putting their fingerprints all over this squad.
