Buck ONeil Sings Take Me Out to the Ball Game, Video

June 30th, 2008

The Great Buck O’Neil Sings “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, VideoBuck O’Neil is of my favorite people of all time. This clip comes form the Ken Burns Baseball Documentary. The first time I saw him I was a young lad watching PBS and loving every second of it. Buck O’Neil brought every story to life. I was shocked when I found out that this ambassador of the game was never inducted into the Hall of fame while he was alive.

You have to love how modest he is when the video begins. Then he does one of the best Take me out to the Ballgames you have ever heard. Please enjoy this,  Buck O’Neil Sings Take Me Out to the Ball Game, Video.

NESW Sports Experiment Foregone Conclusion

June 30th, 2008

I started an experiment on this blog 6-16-2008. I was going to do several things for a month, but mostly I was going to write more. I was going to show the stats at the end of the experiment etc… I was going to have some bloggers I know give their insight on the experiment.

Well, after a little after 2 weeks I have come to a foregone conclusion. I do not need to continue the experiment any further. This is what I learned.

  1. One of the points of the experiment was to test my writing skills. I learned my writing is just OK. I know this and I am happy with it. I will try to write more, so I can grow a readership. I will continue to do the “ESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring Game” on Sundays. I might do more features in the future.
  2. I missed posting videos. :-) I really did. That is what a lot of people come here for the most. I kind of have a knack for finding good videos. I will go back to doing that more.
  3. I linked to more blogs in the past couple weeks and read a lot more blogs. I realized more and more that I like the Sporting Bloggers blogs the most.  Awful Announcing, Mr. Irrelevant, EDSBS, and The Sporting Blog etc…
  4. During the experiment my stats stayed around the same. The reason for that is that my writing is just OK. This is a part time blog for me, so I do not have the time to break serious news and have in depth interviews etc… My Google traffic stayed the same.
  5. I did not like getting the same amount of traffic. NESW Sports has always been on the upswing. I did not like the lull. That is why I cut the experiment short. That  and because I saw the writing on the wall. I already knew the outcome.

Conclusion. I will write more, but I want this to be the best place to get breaking videos, funny videos, and classic videos. I do not think I will be doing any more experiments. :-)

Michael Kay wins week 2 of ESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring Game

June 29th, 2008

ESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring GameWelcome to the ESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring Game. Please click the link for the rules. This weeks panel is John Saunders as the mediator of Bob Ryan, Michael Kay, and Howard Bryant. I am not one to start rumors, but Bob Ryan won the game last week, and now he is the only one back from that panel. Did my humble scoring game have anything to do with it? I didn’t think so :-)

No bonus points for the opening remarks. Howard Bryant does get a negative one point for wearing one big hoop earring. I am sorry, but that is not cool.

1st Segment. What is the best team in baseball? They spend the whole segment talking about the American League East. They throw the Angels in there but it is very gratuitous. They really just want to talk about the AL East.
Bob Ryan gets a negative one point for the first round. He brings up Steve Bartman as a reason the Cubs will not win this year. The Cubs have not won in 100 years. Bartman has had nothing to do with it. Then he has to go back and talk about the American League East… Again.

2nd Segment. How did the draft pan put and where will LeBron go?
The Draft was pretty boring. No good points.
Michael Kay does get a negative point for calling the NBA Draft age limit disgusting. That was a little silly. It is a little insulting to anyone that is told that it is for the players own good, but it is not disgusting. It is a necessary evil.

3rd Segment. They talk about Federer. No great points were made. It is Nadal and Federer. Roddick seceded a long time ago. No points for this round

4th Segment. Parting Shots. It is anyone’s game. Remember that you can get three points for having the best parting shot. I have been very tough on the scoring this game. The show has been sub par. John Saunders is the only one that is not negative. I feel like this is a bad episode of Celebrity Jeopardy. This game should not be that hard. I expect a lot from these guys, because they are ESPN’s Sports Reporters. They are not my local TV Sports Anchors.

The Parting Shots made up for the rest of the show. Everyone did great, but there can only be one winner. Mr. Saunders almost got it with a great Ode To Barry Melrose. Michael Kay rocked the parting shots. He talked about Adam “Don’t call me PacMan” Jones. He talked about how Pacman said he would pray for Don Imus. Then he reminded Adam that he should pray for the man that is paralyzed in Las Vegas because of his antics. Racial profiling did not shoot that man. Your henchman shot him.

Final Score is.
Michael Kay= 2
Howard Bryant= -1
Bob Ryan= -1

ESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring Game Rules

June 29th, 2008

ESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring GameESPN’s The Sports Reporters Live Scoring Game. This is a new Sunday Feature on NESW Sports. I will do the scoring for The Sports Reporters Show. It comes on Sunday mornings on ESPN. I will continue to do this every Sunday and will keep an all time tally sheet.

These are the rules.

  • There are always 4 players. They are all sports writers and one of them is the mediator.
  • I will give points based on how the panelists do during the segments.
The segments are the conversations they have inbetween commercials. It is hardest for the mediator to win, but it is possible.
  • I give out the points and I will be very tough on them.

Scoring Rules

  • You can get a bonus point for having a the best opening line. Sometimes a lot of truth can be jammed into a short comment. If there is not a great opener, the opening bonus point is forfeited.
  • You get 2 points for winning a segment. There are usually 3 segments unless there are quite a few stories. If there are multiple conversations during one segment, there will still be a single winner. You can get a negative point in a segment for any number of faults that are completely arbitrary to my judgement.
  • At the end of the show there are “parting shots“. The winner of this round gets 3 points. The mediator has a chance of winning because they usually get the longest parting shot, and it is usually the only thing they bring to the plate.

2008 NBA Top 10 Most Annoying Draft

June 27th, 2008

This was the first annual NBA Top 10 Annoying Draft. This years draft did not disappoint. There were some surprises and some blockbuster trades.

The Detroit Pistons look over Flips slightly annoying mask and draft Rasheed Wallace for the number 10 annoying pick. Rasheed talks to more refs than David Stern. I have no idea what he thinks he is accomplishing. The NBA’s Refs can not be swayed.

With the 9th pick the Memphis Grizzlies pick Kwame Brown. Memphis is picking him because everyone else has been picking on him. Besides not signing a prenuptial agreement, Kwame was Michael Jordan’s biggest mistake.

Kwame Brown Partying At A Club

With the 8th Pick the Sacramento Kings pick a Tru Warrier in Ron Artest. They are extremely excited they got his annoying talents before his record label took off.

Jackass

The Celtics are the champions again. That means they will now become annoying. It is a trait that has followed almost every team that has won a championship. With the 7th pick the Celtics select Brian Scalabrine. He was kinf od annoying before the NBA playoffs, but his press conference after the championship  was an excellent display of his annoying capabilities.

Pat Riley’s annoying Hair had the Heat fans shaking their heads when he selected Ricky Davis for the 6th pick. They did not murmur long. They reminded themselves of all of Rickey’s whining, complaining, and selfish behavior. They remembered that the team that did so badly this year was put together by Mr. Riley. He obviously knows a thing or two about being annoying.

For the 5th pick, The Suns trade the Matrix for a fat Shaq and a rap Shaq. This guy is so huge and out of shape that he is not getting paid by Icy Hot. He just does the commercials for the samples. Fat Shaq and Rap Shaq are very annoying.

The Bulls smoke Joakim Noah for the number 4th pick.

Breaking news for the 3rd pick. The San Antonio Spurs earned extra draft picks in honor of Gregg Popovich winning the most annoying smug grin award. He beat out Phil Jackson by a hair.
With the Extra Draft Picks the number 3 pick is a trio of players and a bald spot. Bruce Bowen is picked up for reasons that are known to all especially Chris Paul, Wally, etc… Tim Duncan will continue to bring lifelessness to a team that thrives on lifelessness. Lastly they pick up Manu Ginobili who is quite annoying and floptastic. He is accompanied by his annoying bald spot. Now that team is really annoying.

<— Right there! :-)

The Lakers Mike Kupchak wisely drafts Kobe Bryant instead of trading down and drafting Shaq. Shaq will be annoying for maybe one more year. Mr. Kupchak is thinking about the Lakers annoying future. Kobe has such a bright future in front of him. He will be annoying people for years to come.

ESPN picked up the number one pick from the CNBC Olbermann deal. They traded off one of the most talented sports broadcasters ever and they received and deserved the annoying Draft Lottery pick.
With the number one pick in the 2008 NBA Most Annoying Draft the world sports leader picks Stephen A. Smith! Stephen A. Smith is quite frankly the most annoying pick that ESPN could have made. Stephen A. is a rare form of annoying. He annoys with his comments, voice, gestures, attitude, overall cockiness, and being. Not many people annoy you with their being. Not many people annoy you with the sheer knowledge of their existence. Congratulations ESPN.
